Endorsement: Former Gov. John Carlin Supports Cindy Holscher to Become Kansas’s Next Governor

06/19/25

Today, Senator Cindy Holscher announced she’s received the endorsement of former Kansas Gov. John Carlin in her campaign to become Kansas’s next governor.

“Senator Cindy Holscher was raised on a farm, she has experience in the business world, and she understands how to get things done,” said former Governor John Carlin. “Cindy brings a common sense approach, and she’ll serve as a check and balance on the legislature. She’s bipartisan and pragmatic — just like most Kansans. She has real respect and understanding for our farmers, business owners, workers, veterans, and families. I’m proud to endorse Cindy Holscher for Governor.”

“Governor John Carlin has spent his career fighting for Kansas farmers, families, and kids,” said Senator Cindy Holscher. “He’s served honorably at the state and federal levels, and he’s pushed for important bipartisan reform. I’m proud to have his endorsement.”

Gov. Carlin served as governor from 1979 to 1987, and then served as the National Archivist of the United States from 1995 to 2005. Following his years of service, he retired as a visiting professor at Kansas State University in the Staley School of Leadership. He has served as chair of Kansas Bioscience Authority as well as the Pew Trust Commission on Industrial Farm Animal Production. He has a degree in Dairy Husbandry from Kansas State, and he managed the Registered Holstein herd on his family farm.

With a proven record of delivering Real Solutions for Real Kansans, Senator Cindy Holscher has a bold vision to build a stronger Kansas for working families and the middle class. Her agenda includes:

  • Protecting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid
  • Investing in public education
  • Providing tax relief for working and middle class Kansans, not billionaires
  • Fighting to ensure Kansas families can afford to live and work here
  • Lowering the cost of healthcare, housing and childcare
  • Standing up for children, seniors, veterans and our farmers

About Senator Cindy Holscher

Senator Cindy Holscher was drawn into public service due to her commitment to public education. In 2016, she walked with a group of education advocates from Shawnee, KS, to Topeka twice to bring attention to the underfunding of public schools under the Brownback administration. Holscher was then elected to the State House of Representatives in 2016 – where she co-founded the Women’s Bipartisan Caucus and helped end the failed Brownback experiment. In 2020, she was elected to the State Senate.

As a legislator, Holscher has prioritized tax cuts for working families and the middle class, funding for public schools, strengthening the economy, and lowering the cost of living. Her efforts helped bring down costs for all Kansans by ending the sales tax on food, eliminating the tax on Social Security, and passing child care tax credits.

Holscher’s grandparents were tenant farmers, her dad was a Marine and construction worker, and her mom worked as a janitor at the local grade school. They raised Cindy with common sense, Midwest values, and a love of our country.  Holscher is a first generation college graduate. Cindy and her husband Greg have lived in Kansas for over 25 years. Their three children are all recent graduates of the state’s outstanding public schools.
