Senator Cindy Holscher: It’s Time for Kansas to Legalize Recreational and Medicinal Cannabis
Holscher Calls on Kansas to Catch up to Other States and Increase State Revenue… Big Majority of Kansans Support Legalization
TOPEKA, KS — Today, Kansas gubernatorial candidate Senator Cindy Holscher announced her support for legalizing recreational cannabis, saying Kansas should stop wasting taxpayer dollars criminalizing behavior that is already legal in many neighboring states and instead create a responsible system that benefits Kansas families. Holscher had previously announced support for medicinal cannabis.
In a video posted on social media, Sen. Cindy Holscher said:
“Most Kansas voters think marijuana should be legal in our state, but because it isn’t, Kansans buy it out of state and we miss out on the opportunity to raise more money for schools and public services … Last year, Missouri brought in $255 million in cannabis taxes. That’s real money that can make a big difference for Kansans. Legalizing means we’ll build an industry in Kansas of farmers and small businesses, and we’ll keep our tax dollars in state to benefit our schools.”
Holscher’s support of legalization as a modern financial opportunity for Kansas further strengthens her economic agenda that is focused on working families and fighting back against the establishment and billionaire class.
Legalizing cannabis is hugely popular among Kansas residents according to the Fall 2025 Kansas Speaks poll conducted by the Docking Institute of Public Affairs at Fort Hays State University, with more than 70% in favor of medicinal legalization, and almost 59% in favor of recreational legalization.
