Sen. Cindy Holscher Responds to Attack that She is An ‘Extremist’
Kansas City, KS — Below is a statement from Senator Cindy Holscher, Democratic frontrunner for governor, in response to this morning’s reporting in The Kansas City Star on Governor Laura Kelly’s argument that Holscher is too ‘extremist’:
“Throughout my time in the legislature, and throughout my entire campaign for governor, I have always put everyday Kansans first. I don’t believe our farmlands should be decimated and our water supply drained for massive A.I. data centers that bring no value to local economies. They say I’m too anti-establishment because I’m against unfair stadium deals that benefit the billionaire team owners instead of Kansans. These aren’t extremist positions, they’re just common sense. There’s nothing extremist about standing up for working people or believing our tax dollars should work for us, not be given out to corporations.
“I’m fighting for mainstream policies for the people: lowering property taxes, Medicaid expansion, full funding of education, finally legalizing cannabis – none of which have happened in the last eight years. They’re trying to paint me as an extremist for standing up for everyday people, while they pour corporate donations into my opponent’s coffers. The insiders think that someone who stands up for regular people against big corporations can’t win in Kansas. I say they’re wrong. I’ve won four elections in red districts. I can win tough races – Ethan Corson never has. The Governor’s thumb on the scale hasn’t been enough to get him ahead in this race, and it won’t put him over the top against Ty Masterson either.
“We knew this fight was coming. The insiders on both sides of the aisle don’t want people like me challenging the status quo, and their knives are out. They’re trying to buy this race with a corporate candidate who took money from an ICE prison builder, who doesn’t inspire anyone and won’t be able to beat the Republicans, while spreading lies and smearing my record. But I’m not standing down. I will always keep fighting for Kansas and the amazing, hardworking people and communities who keep us moving forward.”
