KS Legislative Session Proves Why Sen. Cindy Holscher is Democratic Frontrunner
Sen. Cindy Holscher is proving why she is the frontrunner in the Democratic primary for Governor, focusing on the issues that matter to Kansans and fighting for commonsense solutions.
She’s been at the center of some of the session’s biggest fights, from pushing back on costly subsidy proposals to advancing an affordability-focused agenda — and that work is starting to break through with voters and in the press.

Fighting for Kansas Workers & Raising the Minimum Wage
KSNT: $16 an hour minimum wage bill introduced in Kansas
Sen. Cindy Holscher (D-Overland Park) introduced Senate Bill 471 on Feb. 3. The bill, if approved in its current state, would bump up the state’s minimum wage to $16 an hour. This would apply to employers and employees who are covered under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act.
Legalizing Medical Marijuana
Marijuana Herald: Kansas Bill Would Reschedule Marijuana and THC Under State Law
Senate Bill 484, introduced by Senator Cindy Holscher (D) on February 4, would move both marijuana and tetrahydrocannabinols from Schedule I to Schedule III under Kansas’ Uniform Controlled Substances Act, aligning the state with an incoming change in federal law that will also see cannabis moved from Schedule I to Schedule III.
Protecting Families’ Access to Food
Kansas Reflector: Forty individuals, organizations object to Kansas Senate bill adding barriers to food and health aid
Sen. Cindy Holscher, an Overland Park Democrat running for governor, said she appreciated a recommendation from an opponent of the bill to convene a special committee of the Legislature to develop a better understanding of how Kansans dealt with the process of obtaining SNAP or Medicaid assistance. “We have 40 opponents to this bill who are subject matter experts based in Kansas,” Holscher said. “One proponent with an organization based out of Florida.”
Fighting Back Against Billionaire Giveaways
Kansas City Star: I’d love to see the Chiefs in Kansas — just not this billionaire giveaway | Opinion
At a time when our leaders should be laser focused on lowering costs for Kansans, instead they are delivering a massive giveaway to billionaires and asking us to foot the bill. Like the failed Sam Brownback tax experiment before it, the stadium deal makes big promises of nebulous economic growth, but risks blowing open our state budget.
KCTV: Kansas governor hopeful Cindy Holscher opposes taxpayer-funded Chiefs stadium deal
Holscher argues while many families are struggling with the cost of living, state leaders should focus on lowering costs, not subsidizing wealthy team owners. “They’re delivering a massive giveaway to billionaires and asking us to foot the bill,” she said.
Advocating for Victims of Sexual Abuse
KWCH: Kansas Senate maneuvers to limit business operators’ liability in negligence lawsuits
Sen. Cindy Holscher, an Overland Park Democrat who is also running for governor, said the bill was flawed because it would prevent victims of sexual abuse from bringing civil cases against alleged perpetrators on the grounds of negligent security. She said Kansas attorneys in the field expressed concern “the bill as written would protect pedophiles.”
Keeping Kansans Safe, Protecting Our Rights, & Fighting ICE Abuses
WIBW: Kansas lawmakers propose bills amid nationwide ICE activity
Democratic Senator Cindy Holscher is backing a bill that would not allow masks, face coverings or other gear that hides officers’ identity unless the law specifically allows it. “What we are seeing here is the denial of due process,” Holscher said.
She said she’s responding to public requests. “It seems like there’s often a disconnect from what the people are thinking and the people in leadership. I always say the people are ahead of the politicians and it seems to be the case for this too,” Holscher said.

“Children should be able to go to school, should be able to go to daycare without being worried about people looking in the windows and casing and casing the area,” said Holscher. “And they shouldn’t have to worry about their parents being taken. This is absolutely a concern. This is not what should be happening in America. This is not what should be happening in Kansas.”
KCTV: Kansas bill would make immigration enforcement near polls a crime
“This bill will help legal Kansas citizens cast their ballots without fear of harassment or intimidation,” Holscher told KCTV5. “The unfortunate truth is that ICE agents have been caught repeatedly intimidating and even detaining legal U.S. citizens simply for expressing their viewpoints… “We can’t allow that to happen near polling places,” she added. “Federal authorities have no business harassing citizens exercising their constitutional right to vote based on their race, ethnicity, or political views.”
